SimpleCELEB - The ceremony's organisers have been forced to remove foie gras from the menu after PETA complained that making the foodstuff is cruel to ducks and geese, Metro reports.

It is illegal to produce foie gras in the UK because the birds are force-fed to make their livers swell.

"Learning that the Brit Awards is shunning foie gras is music to our ears," a spokesperson for PETA said. "Foie gras is too cruel to produce in the UK and we're pleased that Brit Award organisers have deemed it too cruel to serve."

Meanwhile, Lewis, who is a vegetarian, took to her Twitter page to applaud the decision.

"I was outraged 2 hear that the Brit Awards were planning 2 serve fois-gras at the ceremony," she wrote. "They hav now removed it from the ceremony, well done!

"In case u didn't know, Foie-gras is duck that is forced fed in a sickening cruel process and is banned in the uk. The BRITS menu sadly won't b 'cruelty free' however it is still a major victory & they are taking an ethical stance! Well done and thank u."

A Brit Awards spokesperson confirmed that foie gras had been taken off the menu and added: "Having listened to concerns about imported foie gras forming a tiny part of the Brits menu, we have decided to replace the foie gras with UK-sourced duck liver."

The Brit Awards will be held at London's Earls Court on February 16. [digitalspy.com@satw]
